Ed Asner is the voice on this animation telling a story about wealth in the USA...and probably elsewhere.
This animation was created for California Federation of Teachers

Propaganda or truth?

Not only is Ed Asner a multi millionaire, he's also a class A asshole.
Maybe so.. but that doesn't stop the vid, simplistic as it is, being other than spot on does it?

Of course it's propaganda and the animation is not spot on. It's silly how they pretend that everything was perfect in the past when it was not we or the state of California did not have a great education system, safe streets, or jobs for everyone.

That this was made for the California Federation of Teachers (sure that's not supposed to be the California Teacher's Association?) says it all. The CTA, and the other public employee unions are the strongest lobbying force in the state. They hold the lion's share of the blame for running California into the ground.

That they're sponsoring an attack on anything not government should be no surprise.

Well, according to the video, all rich people are assholes.

But I do have a hard time thinking of rich people who advocate for higher taxes on the rich...as assholes.

Now, ok, I didn't see the whole thing...it became unavailable when I was only halfway through...but here's my take on what I did see:

As much as I agree with the overall message, I think the argument is so amazingly simplistic...and basically aimed at creating bad feelings toward the wealthy. Something fair and balanced (and I do *not* mean Fox News) would be of much greater educational value. As it is, I would have to label this as propaganda...there's just no meat to get hold of here and try to form an argument out of...nor any reason given why anyone could possibly be against the idea.

No, like I said...much as I agree with the overall idea...what I saw sucked.

Course it's propaganda, Annika.. and simplistic.. nowt wrong with simplistic.. no easier way 2 get a message across and doesn't mean it's not an accurate representation of the reality cos substantially it is and if u had seen the whole vid u mite have realised that... not all propaganda is untruthful nor does propaganda have to be fair, tho it shud b truthful and if it is truthful can it be unfair??? That peeps will argue 'bout till cows come home......propaganda is ther 2 get a message across in best way it can.. it gets a bad press cos so much is just bull.. but not all... propaganda the rich and powerful enjoy using against the unemployed and poor... now thats dishonest... and unfair... and bull... and is created to get the poor and less well off among others to have nowt but contempt for themselves and blame ther own kind for the ills of the world and enuff will believe it to allow the rich to do their thing... the vid in question is created not to stir up hatred against the wealthy but hatred for what many of the wealthy and stand for and to get peeps to stand up for themselves against being ripped off and unfairly economically and socially punished as the rich and powerful carry on screwing them at every turn and taking an ever larger cut of the cake for themselves... example... the richest 1% in the UK alone are now £155 billion in real terms more than they wer at the start of the crash... the poor and middle incomes have seen their living standards fall by between 3 and 10% in same period in real terms... and thats just one little country... and a much poorer 1 than than urs....

Isn't just California and the US where it's happening... aah... we r all in it together sayeth the man with the shiny face and the leering, smarmy Chancellor.. and the worst is yet to come they tell us... propaganda sure it is.. but pretty accurate and truthful propaganda... and as relevant 2 here as California...

The video rehashed my mother's logic of the world. "The rich stay and
get richer, the poor stay and get poorer." I think many are waking up to
this ages old axiom.

May already be far too late to do anything to alter the course of the
axiom. All anyone can do is make do with, or without as best able.
Sorry, isn't news to me.

Not worth much discussion either. Suggest other ways, new methods of
thought and see how quickly you're dismissed as mentally ill, or a
trouble maker. No one wants to give something new a try much less hear
of it.

Will just keep on keeping on, finding small comforts and enjoying the
heck out of them. Y'all tell me when the world stops spinning. I'm
afixin to hop off.

Even if it is simplistic propaganda for the so called 99% I found the example of "well what about them?"...pointing to firemen, police, teachers, public services ringing rather true and a distraction from examining whether the wealthy are not paying their fair share of tax. There does seem to be an attempt to distract the dumb public to the point that they turn on those who may have a benefit that they do not have and attacking them. The conned public then vote in people who reduce services and reduce taxes for the wealthy. All the while as the vid states the "extreme" rich are excused from increased tax. These people have funds for their own needs such as private education for their children, security instead of police, etc.

Even on this thread, we have people attacking the voice actor rather than dealing with the content? Divide, confuse and conquer strategy?

PS Gear

16 minute video? :yikes2: sigh...... No offer of a blanky and fumbling about while watching the video?...lol  Ok..I'll get the pop corn and a Guinness. ;)

This was produced for Teachers I guess ii is simply so they could understand it. We wonder why our kids are not learning. If Democrates get to raise the tax on the 1% it would run the goverment for 8 days. Where is the rest of the money going to come from. Oh we can borrow more. The Teachers union has their money on Wall St along with most pension plans gee, are they part of the 1%. Right now the problem is we all must share the blame for the mess we have and all must share in the Fix. The Housing Market collapsed because Fannie and Fredie required banks to give loans to people who didnt qualify. Once this started the crooks went to work get a loan on house that was over inflated for a person that couldnt afford to make the payments multiply that by millions and you have a disaster. Ed Asneris a Socialist I wonder if he got paid to do the voice on that cartoon. Democrates have said they are the party for the Middle class and the Poor. But What have they done for us. Oh yeah they eliminated the tax deduction for interest on Credit cards, Car and Personal loans along with other deductions and have give tax breakes to individuals and Companies. Wait to find out all the tax increases in Obama Care. But remember what Nancy Pelosie said we hav to pass it to see whats in it. Why has so many companies in her district been granted exemptions for Obama Care along with AARP and other Major Contributers to the Democratic Party oh and lets not for get about all the Unions

*half chuckles* Been saying about the same for a decade. Stems from a
conversation I had with a gentleman whom for all purposes was what the
Chinese refer to as a coolie, day laborer.

His family had quite a bit of affluence, he himself managed to achieve
several various degrees, as in p.h.d s and such in broad fields. He had
been classically educated, meaning he had a keen insight of history.

He did the day labor, everything from pasting up billboards to passing
out fliers for a pizza place as fun. He didn't rely on family influence
at all. In fact at his funeral services his family was shocked to have
learned he had been alive for years.

This is relevant in understanding a snippet of one of our conversations.
He said that someone he paid well bought lots of cattle, and land. It
took me a bit to grasp what he was driving at.

"So many moo moo cows, not enough grass. We'll feed them each other."
He said one cold night. I had asked about money being backed by land
grants, as it was alleged to have been once.

He gradually explained that people were cattle. At one time it made
sense to suggest land and property were symbols of freedom. It stopped
making sense when all the land had been settled.

Then, all that was left was "stuff". "They lock you up with stuff." Add
his conversation to ones had with my father-in-law's no nonsense "follow
the money" methodology and a person can start getting a rather bleak and
clear view of the farms.

Still glad gear posted the video, it says a lot of what I've been seeing
and noticing over the past while, well. Also sends a message to me,
maybe I'm not quite as crazy as thought. Not alone in seeing this, at
any rate.

This is equaly true as it is false. It is not just the rich that do tax avasion. Many do it in a way that is good by donating so much money to charety that they don't pay so much in taxes. This is good in that it goes with less middle men to those that the charity helps with less wast that the US Goverment is so enifisient at. So just becuse it sounds good it is neither totaly true nor totaly false.
