I'm a sucker for Gershwin to begin with, plus I'm currently playing Moose in 'Crazy For You'. As such, my vote is for my current theatrical project, or perhaps Pippin or "The Pajama Game; (check out the film version with Doris Day!).

And you?

we have phantom of the opera, cats, chess, chicago, west side story, south pacific, priscilla queen of the desert ( not really a musical as such ), paint your wagon and others...... we have a couple of channels called rialto and TCM that have musicals on at times and the flatmate loves watching them or listening to his DVD / CD collection....

we got burgled about 8-9 years ago and he lost around 50 dvd's, cds and stuff so cin and I have spent a small fortune and a lot of time, tracking down old musicals for him as presents cos the look on his face and the tears in his eyes, make it so worth while

WGAS? It's effing amazing. Guy Pearce, Terence Stamp and the criminally underrated Hugo Weaving? Yes, Please ;)

lmao yeah got a dvd of it for the flatmate......I personally love the scene in the desert with the aboriginals, when they blend the didgeridoo with the modern music ...

yeah I agree about hugo, he really played a good role in that movie....the father that was not ready to be a dad, his fainting scene while on stage when he saw his son was watching, was brilliant lol

Well, my favorite musical is Aida, my favorite non-musical play is probably Woyzeck.

oh boy... i have a few that I like to watch, some aren't musicals per se but just enjoyable to me to see.

I'd have to say off the top of my head my favorite musical is The Sound of Music... sorry corny but it just is.

Favorite play was one I'm sure most haven't seen, but it's one that stuck with me ever since high school, put on by the Blue Apple Players and was called "Consequences" about the dangers of just "one time" and what happens when everything goes wrong.

Must admit my favourite is Disneys Cinderella. I've seen it fek knows how many times with my daughter, and I nag to have that one on when it comes to choosing.
IMO there's a Hell of a lot more sophistication in Disney musicals than most others. So there!lol
Barbies "Oh fek me, I seem to be a princess! Oh that's such a 'dream come true' shock that I just had, yet again in practically every fekin film I've been in, except that one time when I was just a musketeer white trash bimbo!", is getting tiresome now I'm almost 45.

One of me fave plays, for I don't really have a fave is Shakespeare's "Othello".. went 2 an Amateur performance about 10 years back ... Othello almost died b4 his time cos of his rummaging about with Desdemona's boob as she lay on bed dead.... the poor murdered lady wife could b clearly seen rising from dead and giving the naughty hubby a quick clock on eye.. she then fell back on bed and 1ce again did wot she wos there for.. died.... not the best performance I'd ever seen.. but the funniest and most fun...

Musically also ...love far 2 much 2 say I have a fave.. but am ver fond of "The Magic Flute".. not a musical.. an Opera... I'm a snob.. I call an Opera wot it is, Jobe... *laffs* ;) But do agree.. Aida is absolutely brill!!!!

Slightly off topic but... Gear, your post reminds of the way all three of my boys would sit rock solid still while Mulan was on. Experienced the same phenomena with Chronicles of Narnia. We wore out two vhs's then later switched to DVDs as they watched them so often. Enabled mom to get a bath without kids screaming they had to pee or actually hang out washing and stuff without worrying I'd come back in and find them at each other's throats. So all hail Disney movies for their absolute gorgeous value as a babysitter.

We haven't seen Mulan yet DD. I'll get that soon as. Yes strongly agree about Disney being a great babysitter, but also can be a great teaching tool too. Disney films are burtsing with the light & dark of Human souls etc.
I got Mamamia for us to watch last year!:tong: We soon opted to put the adult stuff back on.lol

I'm a huge fan of Liza Minelli and in the film of Cabaret I think she is amazing... it is actually the only thing I have ever seen of his work which doesnt seem to be performed too much over here. I did take Shiv to see an amateur production not long back and she was gobsmacked. Yes I did tell her to close her eyes at the male snogging scenes but only as a joke.. she told me to grow up and not be such prude *laffs*. She did ask whySally Bowles spoke cockney and not like Liza did in the film.. well.. more true to Isherwood's original story isn't it?

Sondheim did things like Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Company, Sunday in the Park With George and Assassins to name a few. He also did the lyrics for West Side Story. You should check out some of his work....incredible music!!!!

I have seen plenty of shows over the years----it may or may not be the best--but earlier this summer they had a nearly month long run of a Broadway company's production of "Wicked" in my city and it was really great.

It's been awhile since I've been to one but the last was Tennessee Williams' Cat On a Hot Tin Roof; it was a date night. Before that it was Arsenic and Old Lace; the character of Mortimer Brewster was my roommate at the time.

Don't get out for plays. In high school though had some drama classes. Enjoyed Midsummer Night's Dream and Tempest, Every Man.

I was lucky enough to see an AWESOME revival of "42ND Street" that starred Jerry Orbach!
I swear half the audience tap danced out of that theatre!
I was also lucky enough to see "The Lion King" on broadway........
I hope I am not WRECKING it for anybody....but the climax of the play is when they finally figure out SCAR killled Mustafa and SCAR, trying to save his own hide by Blaming SIMBA??? ....well....a little kid in about the 4th row yells out "YOU DID!" He so believed what was going on....the audeince broke out laughing but the cast stayed stone faced.
I also JUST saw "Book Of Mormon"...I had to hold my side to fight the cramps I got from LAUGHING OUT LOUD for so long!

I've been in amateur/semi-pro musical theatre (production: I sing like a brick!!) for 25 years.
I love it.

best musical - Les Miserables then Fiddler and Cabaret (not the film)

As a note - the cabaret Film contains the spookiest moment I've really ever watched.
If you can, watch how "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" turns ugly as it is sung. It's a study in brilliant filmaking.

The most embrrassing moment of me life was in an "amateur" production of a play written by a classmate at Primary school.. I was 10, Inna.. the play was called "Loppy is Lost" and was 'bout a lost bunny and a lil girls xmas... we did it as part of the school xmas festivities.. I played (or at least was s'posed 2) Loppy's owner's Mum. Don't remember too much bout the story but do remember me 1st line was "Noooooooo." Well I couldnt spit it out... I was much 2 embarrassed cos of stage fright..... curtain came up and there I was wiv first word of the scene.. 300 parents in the hall.. and I frozz.. looked like a dummy, looked at me mum an dad begging them wiv me eyes 2 beam me outa there.. and in front of all those parents and haffa the school.... the tell tale sign of wet knickers and dribbles down me legs and the inevitable puddle on the floor... kids laffed, me m8s most of all, lots of shhhhhh's... parents went awwwww and that was it.. I was off and out and gone and in hysterics at me shame... I sat freezing inside me dads garden shed blubbing until dad found me... I had humiliated mesel and u have no idea of the hassle and piss-takin (forgive the pun) I had for months after.

So I don't have a fave play partic.. but do sure as hell have an unfave 1....
