Akin rape theory rooted in Nazi death camp experiments - This reasoning, based on 1972 article by a University of Minnesota Medical School assistant professor, has been used for decades by anti-abortion activists to argue that no exceptions to abortion bans are necessary, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
In the article titled “The Indications for Induced Abortion: A Physician’s Perspective,” Dr. Fred Mecklenburg concluded that it “is extremely rare” for a rape to result in pregnancy….

Granholm: Republicans are against Todd Akin in name, but solidly behind his ideas - “Congressman Todd Akin has got to be scratching his head at the recent turn of events,” Jennifer Granholm says. “Why are the Republicans so breathlessly chasing him from the field when they all – and especially Paul Ryan – have advocated essentially the same thing?”
On the heels of Republican putting a no rape exception to abortion in their party platform today Granholm digs into the politics underlying the GOP’s extreme stance on a woman’s right to choose. And even more puzzling, why Akin is being shunned from the party while Romney’s vice presidential pick Paul Ryan gets to stay right where he is.
