Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, reportedly (http://www.buzzfeed.com/mckaycoppins/paul-ryan-will-be-romneys-veep-romney-advisor-sa) Mitt Romney’s pick to join the Republican ticket, voted twice — in 2004 and (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2004/roll484.xml) 2006 (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/roll378.xml) — to amend the U.S. Constitution to prevent same-sex couples from marrying, taking action on an issue his running mate has largely avoided.

On voting for the amendment in 2004, Ryan issued a news release (http://paulryan.house.gov/news/documentprint.aspx?DocumentID=288260), saying, “I believe that marriage should remain between a man and a woman, and I have heard from many of the people I represent who are concerned about activist judges abusing their power and rewriting our society’s definition of marriage. I had hoped that this amendment wouldn’t be necessary, but increasingly it appears that laws such as the Defense of Marriage Act will not be sufficient to protect marriage from certain courts that distort state and federal constitutional law." - http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/ryans-votes-with-one-exception-oppose-lgbt

He's a Republican, I am so not surprised....................... After all they are the ones siging the Marriage Pact to try and make it a constitutional amendment that marriage is between a man and a woman. I, honestly, can not see how anyone who claims to support LGBT rights would vote Republican and I don't care who tries to tar and feather me over that comment, it's MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!

I voted for Obama in 08 but even he and the Democrats are not exactly for LGBT rights or same gender marriage and they'll say how same gender marriage should be up to states and not the federal government's decision at all. If I even vote this election I'll vote for the green party.

One thing is very clear about the two major party tickets, with their respective policies, priorities, etc being different---there is a pretty clear difference between them and for most people, either way-the choice is going to clear and pretty easy---for me--thanks to Romney choosing someone like Ryan---it made up my mind for sure----unless something really major happens--I will once again be punching the computer screen for Obama, because even though I do admit he and his Democratic party are no great shakes----I believe they are "the lessor of two evils"--especially since the modern, Tea Party/Grover Norquist "no taxes" pledge dominated Republican Party is too far right for my tastes.

I really wished that we in America, actually had a variety of political parties covering a much broader spectrum of viewpoints, priorities, etc from which to select from--I might want to vote for another party, but the reality is that since the Dems and Republicans have the system rigged to favor them both----it really is a case of "throwing away" your vote to go for a "third party,"

In regards to Ryan--even though I don't follow his views on things----he was a much better choice by Romney than was John McCain going with Sarah Palin back in '08. To me--it was pretty clear rather quickly that she was not all that bright a person, and she was an opportunist. You do have to say--even if you don't agree with Ryan---he is intelligent, articulate, well polished and things of that sort---which I do have to admit---from that aspect of his nature that is of concern----it possible that he can make a compelling case for those who are amenable to being swayed in their vote---he can persuade them to go for the Romney-Ryan ticket.
