Let me tell you about a teenager I know. No names, not gonna say who it is, but I know this kid. She is your typical Canadian girl. Getting set to take over the world! As we all were at 18. :) She likes music, television, books, the mall, on and on. She likes being with her family, and likes the things most teen-aged girls like. Oh yeah, and she just LUV's her boyfriend. She is a joy to know.

Now the reason I told you about her is because on Saturday July 28 (?) Halifax is hosting it's Pride Parade, and she will be in it, smiling from start to end, as she has done every year for 3 years, this will be her 4th. She is not a lesbian, or bi, but she has a reason. She watched, and stuck up for her friend as she got bullied mercilessly all through school, for no other reason than her friend has a Mom, and a Step mom. Yup, you read it right, this kid(with the 2 moms) went through hell on earth through middle school and high school, all because her Mom fell in love with a woman.

So on Saturday, this girl will walk beside her friend and her 2 Mom's, and be proud for doing it, and she should be. I asked her why, and she said, "Well, because I have to support my friend, and her parents. They are good people and should be proud of who they are." The key to her answer "good people." Nothing else just people. Isn't that how it should be?

I say, "Good for you kiddo!" Maybe there is hope for the future after all huh? I am sure there are many, many more teens like this one in the world, unfortunately, the good ones get forgotten by the few bad eggs out there in the world of our Young Adults. I just happen to know this girl and thought I would share her story of supporting her friend and her parents. Again " Good on ya Kiddo!"

My son is 13. He made me proud because he went to our local Pride Festival and parade this year with us. His first and our third. He enjoyed himself, met a couple of the performers we know, and impressed everyone because he wore a pin that said I (heart) my 2 Moms. My wife is a pre-op Transgender from male to female so this made her feel even more special. There are a lot of people who support their friends, family, and just support even if they know no one. I am glad that young people are realizing that we are JUST PEOPLE.
