mmmmmmm.

TOTALLY understand. The two best smells in the world - 1. Bacon frying. 2. Coffee brewing. God they just make a house smell so good for days.

BUT
This is about what is good for DD, since she is recovering. Smells may do her good, but the fat once she eats it would choke a horse.

from the Toronto Star
10 things you may not know about our flag
*The Red Ensign was Canada’s unofficial flag until 1945 when the Governor General ordered it to be officially flown on federal government buildings.

*Red Ensign flags were taken abroad during battle, often carried in soldier’s packs. The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa has more than 20 flags brought oversees during battle.

*The last Red Ensign to fly on Parliament Hill on Feb. 15, 1965 is on display at Ottawa’s Canadian Museum of Civilization

*Every day a designated Parliament Hill employee changes the flag on the Peace Tower. The process takes about 30 minutes and requires a 33-metre climb up stairs and ladders.

*There’s a 35-year waiting list for those who want a Peace Tower flag and only one flag per household is allowed. If you want an ordinary flag, contact your MP. They have an annual flag quota for their constituents, provided through the Parliamentary Flag Program.

*Destroying a flag isn’t illegal in Canada, but this should be done in a “dignified way.” The Canadian Heritage department recommends burning it in private.

*Throughout the world, flag burning has been seen as a political statement. Last year, G20 protesters torched the flag on the streets of Toronto. A Cree man in Saskatchewan has stated that he intends to burn the Canadian flag Sunday as a symbolic act of cleansing.

*More than 80 people carried the largest known Canadian flag onto the field at a Hamilton Tiger-Cats game in 2007. It measured 38 by 76 metres.

*Most Canadian flags are made of nylon or polyester. The largest flag company in Canada, Toronto-based Flying Colours International, sells between 300,000 and 500,000 flags a year, many of them to the federal government.

*Feb. 15 is National Flag of Canada Day, an event created in 1996 by then-prime minister Jean Chrétien to commemorate the inaugural raising of the Maple Leaf flag 31 years before.

I do not think that a lot of Canucks eat Peameal bacon(US calling it Canadian Bacon)? My mother use to eat it but that is the only one in the family that did.

It depends on how much she eats and varies her diet... balanced.. out of balance an' 2 much fatty stuff.. big arse.. I refuse 2 have a big arse an' won't let me arteries get clogged up.. so moderation babes in all munchable yummie things.. if I ever get like me Gran who, wen young looked ver like me..but in her 30s she got like side of a house.. it will not b because of me diet...

btw tenni babes.. have nev burnt a Canadian flag.. twice a Union flag (not the 'merican 1 but have no qualms 'bout that if it comes 2 pass an' I felt it was important..).. once a Saltire.. the Union flag wos during the run up 2 the gulf war.. second during the g8 summit up 'ere.. the saltire wos after a particularly bad humping by the Netherlands in Amsterdam at footie...:(

..all the same.. have luffly day Canada..:)

Miss Peg,
So nice to see you keeping things light and lively. Love your taste in music too. Made me want to stick maple leaves in my hair, tie a Whitecaps banner to my antenna and zip down to the nearest pub before closing, even though I don't drink beer. Thanks much, and Happy Canada Day to you, too. Moi in WA.

Yes, I knew about the lights on the Falls. I use to live not too far from them (about 15 km). It is interesting and that is probably how the flag was created ..after I thought about it for a minute after posting. I got the image from a Facebook friend's reposting of some other Facebook person. ;)

Kate Anyone may call us Canucks as we are proud of that name. The Vancouver NHL hockey team is named the Canucks.. ;)

Happy Canada Day!

My ex and I went over in 2007 and had a wonderful time. We were invited up by a retired couple, who we met when the husband was in the military. The people and country are great and, if not for the cold, I would have considered living there.

I'm glad they're our neighbors.

Many happy returns!

..... if not for the cold, I would have considered living there.

the "cold" ? precious little of that over the past 30 or so years, D. Last winter I had tops 6'' snow in my yard and I'm (as the crow flies) approx 100 miles north of Toronto: they don't get much either. I REALLY miss the snow of yesteryears I tellya. When I was living in the Maritimes as a kid, we regularly got over 12 FEET of snow each winter... not nearly that much now.

Thanks for the greetings :)

Ha! Peg...It looks like Buffalo, and Erie, in New York, have gotten more snow than you have!

I was born and raised in Florida, so 50 degrees is plenty cold for me! We do get a freeze, now and then, but it won't last long.

It's not that I haven't had my experiences with cold/snow, though. At 19, I experienced my first taste snow and REAL cold, during a two year tour in Germany. I lived 6 years in Virginia, 25 in Kentucky, then 10 more in Pennsylvania. I never got used to it!

I'll deal with the heat, humidity, bugs, crowded highways, and won't worry about shoveling snow, anymore!

Maybe you'll have an "old time" snow next Winter!

I love the fact that I live in the warmest part of Canada. We get snow here, but not very often and it usually melts away after a day or so. Most of the time when it freezes, the skies are clear. A small pond might develop a thin layer of ice in a week or so, but even that is short lived. It rains a lot here, (especially this spring/early summer) but you don't have to shovel rain.

ROFL, I didn't even get to eat a slice before I was back in ER so you can't blame the pizza. Just blame the fact my descending prednisone schedule put me below the level that the pleural effusion stayed gone. So just got back out from another week inpatient, in insurance limbo and told "not to worry" easy for them to say, I kinda like a roof over my head and food in the fridge. On the bright side, got to spend my nation's birthday in a nice cool hospital while temps soared over 110 outside. But nicely home now and glad to see there were no terrorist issues on either Canada Day or July 4th. But they have already had a few things going over in England on the Olympics side.. we just need to hope and pray that we never again see a Munich 1972.
