Dick Clark, called America's Oldest Teenager, has passed away from a heart attack. For many years he hosted American Band Stand and I have many fond memories of watching him countdown the time til the New Year. Here's hoping you get to keep doing what you loved to do so well even now that you are gone. RIP Dick Clark

Dick Clark and American Bandstand inspired me to begin playing guitar when I was in my teenage years, a hobby I've persued throughout the course of my adult life.

Sorry to hear of his passing---and on the same day that he died-it was announced that Levon Helm---a favorite musician of mine---who back in the 60s and 70s was one of the principals of Bob Dylan's backing band--"The Band" has terminal cancer and only a few short months to live. He has continued to make some great music to this day---with the genre he now falls into being "Americana/American Roots" music----he also did some acting roles in several major motion pictures including playing the father of "Lorretta Lynn" in the film "Coal Miner's Daughter" Sissy Spacek playing Lorretta and Tommy Lee Jones playing her husband.

It was a sad day on both accounts, as far as I am concerned, to have heard the news about both.
May Dick Clark RIP and that Levon's final days are at least as happy and pain free as they can be.
Another thing with Levon Helm---while I never got the chance to ever meet him and won't now, I do know several local musicians who have met him, have worked with him and they all said that Mr. Helm was just about the nicest, kindest, generous, warm and helpful person that you could want to meet, even though he could be a hard task master since he was so dedicated to creating music of the highest quality and expected that of anyone who worked with him---but he did it in a good way-like a good teacher that demands nothing but the best from his or her students. To that end--Levon Helm very often served as a direct mentor of scores of aspiring musicians and as an indirect one to those that didn't get to study or work with him--and he inspired an untold number of musicians that either simply played music as a side thing or went on to become a recording and performing one.
He will be very sorely missed for not only the great music he has made---but that he was so generous and encouraging to those wishing to make music.

“My greatest asset in life,” he said, “was I never lost touch with hot dogs, hamburgers, going to the fair and hanging out at the mall.”--Dick Clark...he will be missed!
