A new post from A.J. Walkley's blog: "Bisexual in a Gay/Straight World" (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/aj-walkley/bisexual-in-a-gaystraight_b_1427355.html)

We've all heard the stereotypes: indecisive, confused, wanting the best of both worlds, promiscuous, gay or lesbian in transition, engaging in a fad, seeking attention. If you identify as "bisexual," you've likely encountered at least a few of these clichés during and after your coming out process. I know I have. Despite the slew of us out there attempting to dispel such myths on a daily basis, they continue to be perpetuated, and they continue to make life difficult for us all.

nice blog.... he hits a lot of nails, square on the head about bisexuals lol

the trouble, as I see it... is a lot of the misconceptions about bisexuality, are true of some bisexuals and the bisexual unsure / undefined.... and that can make it very hard to dispel a lot of the misconceptions about bisexuality..... its part of the reason why I class bisexuality as a attraction and interest in both genders, and bisexual as a diverse aspect of individual people that differs from person to person.......

I do fully agree that being bisexual can be a lot harder than being gay or lesbian in some cases, as most people see things in terms of black or white, you are either gay / lesbian or heterosexual.. and the idea that a bisexual person can be a mixture of gay / les, bi and hetero at the same time, can really confuse the hell outta people...... we may see it as bisexual and bisexuality, but from the outside, we can appear hetero, be bis and engage in gay / les and hetero sex practices ( defined by partner at the time ) or appear gay, be bi and engage in gay / les and hetero sex practices....

one of the best answers and counters I have heard by a bisexual being told they were just confused, was that they were no more confused than a person trying to decide what to order from the menu at a restaurant... there was plenty of choices so why be limited to the steak every time.....

Yes, but on the news they usually show gay prides, but bisexual ones almost never.

zig, it may have a lot to do with the fact that there are hardly any bi pride parades.... and never any in New Zealand.....

I have heard a good number of reasons why.....

1) LGBT parades are good enuf, why segregate ?
2) we do not need a parade to be proud of who we are
3) nobody is willing to fund it ( thats actually BS in NZ, the funding is there, the participates are not )
4) the bisexuals have no reason to get in peoples faces as we are not fighting for anything anyway
5) bi pride doesn't really exist, its a excuse for people to shove their sexuality in other peoples faces

that list comes from within the bi community.... not the LGBT community ... the difference there is the bi community ( in NZ ) seperate themselves from the LGBT community which are more supportive of all sexualities and acknowledge bisexuality as a valid and real sexuality, hence why I have so many issues with getting any help and support from the bi community ( in NZ ) but the bisexuals in the LGBT community, are more than willing to help and work in with the gay / les / trans and hetero community with providing support for the LGBT and their allies
