This reference was found in another thread, and it prompted me to ask a serious question....

*Unfortunately we can't pay, but we will trade for Premium Membership on the site (coming soon),*

I know this is off topic from the original thread, but what exactly does this mean? Is Bi-sex going to become a pay site? I hope not, I dont pay to go to various sites, and I'd hate to not be able to be a member here after being one for so long?
Drew, help me out here please Hon?

Drew's post from another thread may shed some light.
http://www.bisexual.com/forum/showthread.php?12618-Disappearing-Threads

I am trying to get approval to accept credit cards on the site so we can have a "Fans of Bisexual.com" club. These folks would pay a small fee and have some enhanced site features such as unlimited views of Personal Ad videos and so on. Don't worry, I intend to keep the user experience for regular/free members very much the same. It's just that I need to find a way to get some income from this site.

It only states a problem and doesn't present any concrete answers regarding what is in store. I posted a suggestion which may offer some better sense as a hopeful direction. I do not run the site and can only offer suggestions. I have no desire to run the site and by far am no expert in anything.

It seems though more thought and consideration could have been given in starting up, or restarting a site. This however is merely personal opinion and not in any way is meant as scathing critisim. Drew has done a realy fine job so far and I appreciate that. We're all human and all busy with living. Life happens.

The only reason I express that opinion is because it sometimes gets frustrating to see others, or think of others as not striving to their potential. Of course, that is a subjective matter too and self inclusive. I would like to write fiction here, it could be a good stepping stone. That in mind, as with everyone, it would be hard to produce something for nothing. Everyone likes being paid for work.

Critism and exsposure are fine and may help a good many. They do not help paying bills. Think it is only understable and reasonable to think in such a way. But I'm a nutcase, what do I know?

This was all brought to light on the old site. It costs money to maintain and upgrade a site. I think Drew has his focus on added perks for paying members or Fans Club as it is called. Some things would change to one degree or another but the basic membership seems to be a free option on into the future. I think people are getting alarmed before they know the facts. Reading posts by Drew will keep you up to date. Don't depend on what someone posts in a thread, they may have been drunk or high and made an assumption.

I have read and re-read Drew's postings. I am not relying on what others have posted. It's Drew's site, he'll say what is happening. What I am saying is there has been a lack of clarity in what has been said. There is also a great deal of ambiugity and vaugeness in what has been said. I understand the reasoning behind being tenative, yet it is at times bothersome, as in example par my posting below regarding writing for the site.

Apologies if it isn't clear that I'm not drunk, stoned, or stupid. Hopefully, this will clarrify that. I am also not being alarmist nor alarmed, thanks.

I guess simply asking "what's happening" in a direct manner is too simple, and therfore causes others to be afraid. In that fear they lash out and accuse others whom ask of being anything but reasonable. And such thinking and attitude prevailing here is yet another reason I and others have lessened emotional and time investment. The site is no longer what it used to be.

Yes, there are some good changes. But the negavity in all of it has a way of curtailing optimism and enjoyment of the site.

Hi all,

The reason why there isn't really a lot of concrete information is because... well... I am making it up as I go, so there isn't a whole lot of real information.

The whole bisexual.com project is a work in progress.

The other reason for the lack of real information is I don't want to discuss my financial situation publicly (but I am fine - I mean some income from bisexual.com would be great, but if it doesn't happen then I will still be fine. It just means I might have to write a resume for the first time in many, many years. Oh poor drew. :) )

I realize I have caused some uncertainty, maybe even anxiety, by dribbling out some information about the future of bisexual.com. It wasn't my intention. I was just trying to be honest in answering other questions that came up.

As far as specifics:

1. The site is definitely going to have some ads - I have added some in the last 2 weeks. The form and quantity is an experiment in progress. I think there is another thread on that and so I will speak a bit more about this in that thread. The rule however is going to be that the ads will NOT be so many, and so intrusive, and so pornographic as to significantly change the current character of the site.

2. There will be some sort of premium (paid) membership - details are more or less totally up in the air. Again the rule I am operating under is that any changes I make will not significantly change the current character of the site. More specifically, you can read that as the regular/free membership will be substantially the same as it is now. I do not plan to roll back a lot of features.

Like many of you, I like the site the way it is now.

sighs, that blows my image of drew the bisexual billionaire playboy.... sobs.....

drew, I know this is grabbing at straws, but is there a way that bisexual.com can open up a option for donations to the site in order to assist with articles and things like the choices comic, in addition to a premium membership.... its something that I have seen in a couple of other sites, the option of perm membership, and the option of donating without perm membership for those that do not want the extra options but want to support their site and community....

the donation system could be anon if members choose to remain quiet, but supportive...... and their donations would be evident in the fact we have things like articles and the comics again......

That is basically how the premium membership is going to be positioned or "marketed". It will appeal to one of two types of people:
1. Those that want to support the site with a small donation.
2. Those that want premium personal ad features.

It is tentatively going to be called the "I heart Bisexual.com Fanclub"

ps. Unfortunately we can't take PayPal donations as they do not allow it on adult-themed sites like ours (even though you see many sites breaking that rule).

I can respect you having no desire to discuss finances. I will say though, looking at Threepiilows and its fees I have trouble seeing you as being in any distress. If you need a better hosting arangement you could look into www.nearlyfreespeech.net. They offer services starting as low as a nickel per month hosted and aren't one of those prepacked hosting plans. You pay exactly for what is used, nothing more save for financial processing charges. And yes, they allow adult content. Not sure if CCBill uses a merchanting plan or not. If so you could likely set up that so much percentage from fees went to pay hosting automatically.

This is just personal observation and you can ignore it. Seems like on one hand everyone knows sex sells, on the other hand bisexual sex doesn't. Reminds me of a joke I come up with years back that me and wife get a chuckle out of from time to time. Two bisexual people are stranded on a deserted isle for six months. Rescue crews ask how the sex was. Both reply honestly and in unision, "nothing happened." I have a wretchedly terrible humor. At any given, hope you start doing better in endevors and have better fortune.
