it seems strange that losing the ability to access the internet can actually really rather unseat someone - yes i simply felt lost. But don't write me off as a lonely, forum obsessed loser, who can't handle the outside world, and who places too much emphasis on life in the ether....
it actually transpired, the cold hard facts, that after over 2 weeks of zero access to la web, i have lost out on money, jobs,2 laptops, faith, connections and perhaps the odd bump and grind or two (look, no-one goes out to get laid anymore).
consider how it might affect u....? i never realised quite how vital the net is to modern day living... how it has seeped into every facet of our daily lives...(my daily life)
How long do u think u could give up all access to a computer...... ?
Don't be cock-sure about it....it's harder than u might first think.

anyway..i finally made it back online...
oh and the answer was 'bukake', way back in my last post...to those that wondered....just to clear that up.

now. what did i miss?

Daffyd Things move on when you/we are off the net. What thread and post number is the answer "bukake" the answer to?..;)

You have been placed in charge of doing the dirty dishes and cutting the grass during the summer...te he...he :)

I agree that the web has become more and more essential but I am not sure if that is real or not. Recently, I got a smart phone. The phone may be smart but I'm not. Its quite the trauma after using my old cell phone for nearly six years. I decided for some reason to get this "beginners" smart phone rather than the latest hot one. I can not figure out the "beginners". I thought that I might want to go on the net while out. I've almost figured out how the text messages work. Its a touch phone and I' m screwing up answering phone calls because my touch is too harsh for the poor dear phone. I'll get to the emailing and web browsing eventually. Today is day four dating my smart phone. I've not figured out its gender yet but sometimes I think that it should go and fek itself..lol

Losing access to the internet is my equivelant of running out of the house naked screaming "WHO ORDERED THE VEAL?"

OMG...you have that dream, too?? :tong:

Dafydd, I echo tenni's question...I must have missed that one.

I find that, on those rare occasions when I abstain from the net, that it's harder the first few days and then you start to get used to it. (just like any other drug!)

Well apparently a pic of two car keys were depicting 'Buckake'.:tong: How? Damn it! HOW?

I went 6 weeks without the net a year ago, and had to watch TV for the first time in years! Dear God that box is depressing!! I can't believe I sat/laid there watching ANY crap that passed before my eyes at night. It was TERRIBLE!!
At least on the net you get to choose the crap you REALLY want to see.lol

OMG, you said it. I know when I first got back from NZ I was having to deal with cable, since the box was not turned in, my dad thought my brother had done it, my brother thought my dad had done it, it continued to charge me for service even though I was 9k miles away. So it took me almost 3 months to get it back on, I was going nuts. But at least I had plenty of books and movies on the PC, had no tv at all since it was cable and very few dvds. I got so sick of watching the Blue Collar Comedy Team Rides Again, it's really funny the first time... not so funny the 20th. I did manage to catch up with Xena:The Warrior Princess since the collection had arrived just before I left for NZ so that part was okay. But mostly I was just frustrated that my ability to communicate with LDD had been lost. I could call him but only briefly on the phone, I had gotten spoiled just being online all night, doing our own thing and talking when we needed to talk, it was like being an old married couple and suddenly I was adrift without that connection. It sucked. Giving up the net, would be okay as long as I time on phone to call LDD but giving up PC totally??? Oh no... cause I spend most of my awake time in front of it, either reading or watching shows or videos or playing games. Would I do it for a good cause? Would have to be a really really good cause because so much of the world is connected these days, we get instant news of events across the world and we have access to information that would have made our parents cry back when they were in school and struggling to do reports with old encyclopedias.

Welcome back, Dafydd :)

LOL Gear. I honestly do not believe the world could survive without the net now, so much is interconnected. What is further amusing is the dependence on electronics, for example a cashier at a store was having issues with the register. It would ring up and total but she had to manually calculate the change to the customer. I managed to not roll my eyes as I gave her back the five dollars too much she gave me and told her the current change. What has happened to simple ability to deal without a calculator? It just boggles the mind.

Last year, I went practically the whole year without, and soon may have to go a few months without. It is hard at first not being connected all the time, but, after a while you start to remember what life was like before the Internet ever existed and what you used to do before you got the "green glow" and it gets easy. After a while you don't even miss it anymore.
