View Full Version : Post Police

I'm posting this because I was inspired by Gearbox's recent comment in another thread

I'm sure some have a fetish for posting on threads
saying not to post on threads.

Dear God! Cum already yu pervy buggers!

Gearbox was using humour to get across a very serious point regarding 'post police'.

What is this current trend over policing posts? e.g.

"This post is deserving, this post isn't deserving.."or
"This post has had too many replies already..." or
"This post contains unsuitable subject matter....don't respond, don't encourge the OP.." or
"Don't be manipulated by the OP to respond like this or like that..."

WTF? It never used to be like this. Since we seem to have a lot of new members I just want to be clear about encouraging them to post and not feeling it has to appeal to everyone.

If you don't like a post, don't contribute to it. I don't care whether someone decides that a post has had too many responses, because the subject matter doesn't thrill them. Stop hijacking posts by telling people they're not worthy posts! Stop mediating my browsing experience like a net nanny.

Create your own post about unworthy posts in that case. Your OWN post. You might not find a post interesting...so just read the next one...

I don't need to be nannied on www.bisexual.com. We come here to find a place without censure...where we can dip in and out of whatever we choose.. let the moderators take care of offensive content...let them decide on what goes.

Sure I might find an idea disagreeable and I might say so in reply. But the idea of posting something shouldn't be a problem, or that posts should have to appeal to the masses.
I often talk about the fact that I don't like all those cock and pussy topics littered around the board, but usually I just leave them be, or I don't read them...I don't post on them to to say to others...."too many responses already, lets move on..."
(partly because sometimes I know I'm going to want to comment...and I just want to leave the door open a bit) ;)

If you think a post is crap, good for you. Not everyone might agree.
Police youself. Not others.

Please

And Gearbox....you can police me anytime.. xx

PS if you don't agree with me, please comment.
If you don't agree with me posting, read the next post.

one of the biggest problems is forum pollution. if someone new wants to see what others have said in the past about an issue they may be having now, they end up wandering in the weeds. duplicate topics, some repeated ideas across them - just a mess.

I haven't noticed any trend towards policing. If anything, Drew is too slow to get to trolls and attack posts.

I do see people getting bent out of shape because people call them out on their bullshit. Even worse, is other people complaining that other people are calling even other people out on bullshit that wasn't even theirs to begin with. Talk about developing a culture of a nanny state.

And now we have an entire thread dedicated to people complaining about what other people are posting to still other people. The irony is simply dripping.

Think I can remember saying something about people arguing over arguing quite a while back. Been steering clear of a lot on here. Skim over a thread, maybe write up a throw away post, one that does not get posted. Then, I move on. Some don't even illicit the throw away. Yes, surprise some do censor themselves.

As said to tenni, I'm not too bothered over what others think any more. I keep my porch clean, know what I'm doing. Other people can clean their own. If they're happy, not harming themselves or anyone else, why should I care? Some actions and ideas do cross a line. These are things which are generally agreed on as wrong for anyone.

Speaking up and expressing disapproval, disagreement is often requested. "What do think about ...?" If asked then people say. If the asker didn't want to know honestly, was not prepared for or did not want disagreement, why ask? Further, if they do not care about the views of others, why ask or post?

3. Sexual freedom is what it's all about, but even it should have limits - discussions of non-consensual sex, violence and sex, or sex involving children are not welcome here, will be promptly deleted, and the poster may be banned.
4. Have fun. Learn. Share. Entertain. Discuss. Argue. Enlighten.

There's nothing ironic about it. It's an exempler of what I'm talking about. I had originally written this as a reply within another thread. But then decided to make it its own thread. To contain the discussion here so it doesn't hijack other threads. That's not ironic. That's doing exactly what it says on the tin. It would be hypocritical of me if I started this discussion in another post. So now, if people decide that a post has no merit or its not good for the masses, they don't have to choke up said posts, they can simply complain here (in the post about complaining about posts)

Consider this thread then like um.....like fly paper... if you will.

Now there's some irony for you Pasa. Its not dripping... in fact its rather dry.

I do have to say it is a little annoying when people tell me that I shouldn't bother commenting or whatever on someone's post. Hey if I want to discuss or respond to something I will, if not , I wouldn't. I am a big girl and I can decide what I wish to post or not post.

Forums like these are subject to policing by codependent people that are certain they know what/who/how you should be discussing anything/everything under the sun...just ignore them, they are eventually blinded by their own glow of admiration!

Now...back to penile correction...
