I read this story elsewhere and it's about the amount of tomato sauce that will make it count. The reason it was argued anyway was that some people were proposing removing some of the higher calorie foods from school lunch menus forgetting that for some kids that is the only meal they have in a day.

MSNBC reports that politicians had been lobbied heavily by the frozen food industry who didn’t want to see a major revenue stream cut off given how often pizza is found on the menus of school canteens in the US.
Can I get my Pizza seeds, now?

Not pizza, but tomato paste. I was rummaging through the news and came up on this and remembered this in the forums.

I guess doing away with the traditional food group pyramid in favour of the new plate has caused much greater confusion in politics than expected. No wonder other matters seem to be shall we say "more confusing" to them. hmmmm:rolleyes:

I dont know anything about Pizza or its sauce as vegetable but I do know that in Britain it took a court case to prove that Jaffa Cakes are chocolate cakes not chocolate biscuits and therefore not a luxury item and so are not Vat taxed. Cos they go hard like all cakes when stale, unlike biscuits which go soft. Good old McVities.:) My Aunty works for them. I wonder if I can get a little payment for the free advertising?
Useless piece of information isn't it but more interesting than whether Pizza or its sauce is a veggie and they are definitely more morish.:tong:

I don't know why the focus is on the sauce. What about all the stuff in pizza that makes kids fat? Pizza should not be an every day food. It's no surprise that a national conversation that started as healthy eating has devolved into one about a single ingredient within a very unhealthy food. When will the United States learn that we will actually need to make small sacrifices in order to be healthy? (Rant over)

Pizza HAS a vegetable.
Pizza IS a vegetable... P-A-L-E-E-Z-E!
Leave it to CONGRESS to contort things to satisfy their self-serving prisms.

What is so "very unhealthy" about pizza? I would agree that eating a pie every night of the week may not be good for the whole body, but "very unhealthy?" C'mon!

Here's another one that doesn't read. Congress did not say pizza was a vegetable, it simply classified the sauce as a veggie. Oye ve! And that was based on the nutritional value of 1/4 cup of sauce is more nutritious than a 1/2 cup of assorted veggies. This whole thread started by someone who doesn't read the article but jumps on the headline. Change the source of your news gathering.

I read the article...
And yes it's based on the fact that pizza has a certain amount of tomato sauce.
Next you'll be explaining how ketchup is a vegetable , too.
Although , tomatoes are a fruit and therefore that makes ketchup a smoothie...

Why is it so infuriating to me that our Congress can agree and has the time for this kind of crap when they can't agree on how to balance the budget.
They're killin me

Sighs........now I'm hungry nice picture. In the end though, people will complain about anything that they feel is not "healthy" even though pizza does contain most of the food groups "Bread, Cheese, Veggies, Fruit, Dairy, Meat" in a normal pizza. That's crust, sauce and toppings with the cheese to bind it.
It's to the point that kids can't even bring a peanut butter sandwich from home in a packed lunch because someone in the school might be allergic to peanuts.

absolutely but this pizza is missing required ingredients. Where's the onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, ham/canadian bacon.
Write your Congressman and insist on a "National Pizza Ingredient Bill" which should define the nutritional value and places of service, to be voted on, it might get passed.:2cents::rolleyes::bigrin:

Hahaha! You kook! That made more sense than any of this. "National Pizza Ingredient Bill" that sounds so official. It will be HR3664667 A free rubber pizza to the first to figure that bill out.

Hey Hey that's Congresswoman Kook thank you! Of course HR3664667 would require Bi-Artisan(yes) approval however I can't foresee any problems with this because it directly effects national continued obesity. The independent accounting office has confirmed that more pizza consumption would in the long term have a beneficial result in improving national health and reduction in health costs.
However if it does fail, I will implore the the general population to "occupy Italian households" until passage of this critical legislation. :2cents::rolleyes::bigrin:
