For all the bisexuals, not counting OB/GYN visits, just annual physical, do you go to doctor of the same sex or opposite and any preference or specific reason why?

I prefer to go to same gender doctors, mostly because I am wary of older men which most doctors tend to be.

I was a home birth. My GP is the same man who brought me into the world. He is the height of gentility and a very able doctor about whom I have never had a complaint.

At times I have had to consult both male and female doctors within the practice with varying degrees of satisfaction, but it is the capability and manner of the person which is important to me, not his or her gender.

I am a male and I have a young, female family doctor. Also, a specialist I see, a gastroenterologist, is a young female too.

One time while at the Gastro's office for a visit, while lying on the exam table with my legs in the air, I made a joke about her buying me dinner first before examining my prostate. She laughed then, when done, asked, "how's this for romance?" and proceeded to slide a couple fingers repeatedly in and out of my butt. &

Genders of my doctors bugged me, when I was younger, but longer.

I now select a doctor for their expertise and their willingness to tell me what I need to know.

I dislike leaving a doctor's office with no more knowledge of my situation than when I got there!

I mainly see male doctors for checkups and bloodwork, but if I'm seeing a specialist I don't care about their gender just that they're an excellent doctor.

I'm not super picky, but I do prefer a female doctor. I had a male gyno once, and he was very cold and impersonal. I like to talk and joke around to make things more relaxing and get to know my doctors. Not saying all men are cold, but this guy was.

My issue is, male gynos are now required to have a female employee present in the room. So now you get an audience! Hey, why not go get some other folks and see if they're just bored and wanna come in and watch, too! I'm not that shy about my body, but really, I'll pass. And the girl I had in the room with that male gyno was just as impersonal as he was. If there's gonna be more than one person staring at my naked crotch, I'd rather they not have a look on their face that says "I hate my job."

I went to see a family doctor today, and I admit, I was happy to find out it was a woman. I was going in for stomach issues, and no woman wants to talk about being bloated or any other awful digestive details with a man. Like I said, I'm not picky. If someone would've given me a male doctor, I wouldn't have argued. I know all physicians learn the same things and know all there is to know about everyone's body, but I just prefer a female because they understand our bodies and our worries better. Many of them can relate, and it's more of a personal, empathetic approach, rather than just a medical one.

Actually I had a lady problem lately and the only gyno I could see was a male and not only was there a female nurse in there with us, but they were training a new lady and she was in there too. It was super awkward to say the least.

Either as long as they are good at what they do, same as for massage therapists, mechanics, plumbers, electricians and (fill-in-the-blank)...

I have had both female and male doc's. JUst as long as I trust them is all that matters. In fact, I would have to say my fave was a lady.

Yeah, "This is doctor X, can he watcb?" <"only if we can do THIS honey" (wicked evil grin) > I see a lot of those internist things going on. I guess it doesn't bother me so much if they are shadowing another doctor - maybe it would bother me a little if they broadcast it on closed circuit TV to a whole audience with popcorn and sodas.

I haven't decided whether I prefer a male or female doctor yet, and my existing physician who was female now retired so they want me to pick a new one.

I had an anal exam one time and contrary to what they show in movies she had me in the fetal position laying on the side of the table. Should I pretend that I didn't like it??

Actually, no - it was pretty impersonal but I think doc's are trained to look at anatomy that way - after you see enough naked bodies I suppose after a while they all look like cattle. That would be interesting to know - if you're a doctor and you see all sorts of naked bodies, then what really attracts you to a long term partner??

I know some of the "coldness" you all talk about might be difference in bedside manor but I also wonder if any of them worry about being sued in a "compromising" situation. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time I've heard a story about a pervert dentist taking advantage of someone while they were administered "happy gas".

I can appreciate people having a preference for same gender doctors, personally, I couldn't care less - they could be short, green and not from this planet - just so long as they are qualified.

Qualified, competent, good manner, polite an know that their maulin has 2 have some basic connection with their job and not their libido...;)

..wonder wy no quack has ever pushed their luck libido wise with me? Me dad sez no one wants a pint sized scrawn.. cheeky sod... me brother sez they want 2 keep their hands attached to their arms... am a pacifist for god's sake:eek:... they mite get sharp end of me tongue and eventually struck off... but I wouldnt harm them... least not physically;)... can't vouch for wot Naggy Knicks wud do to them tho...

...am havya noticed how no matter how warm it is, the hands of a quack are always bloody freezin... is that part of the qualification process? Don't half make me jump havin great lummoxy mitts like ice suddenly shoved on me tidgies...:(

I am, unfortunately, still virgin in the same sex fun thing, however my doctor, who is more or less my age, is such sexy type of person that I would not hesitate if I had the chance...
Anyway, I am more confortable with a same sex doctor and would be very shy to dialogue with a female doctor.

as a finishing physician in training, many people are quite shy, uncomfortable and very modest regarding body image.

Its our job to just go about a check up in a routine physical way and try and minimize the discomfort someone may feel.

Male or female I always treat my patients with respect and try and help them communicate with me. I've done enough pap smears to know:

1. I am never doing OB GYN
2. After the first time, it gets old looking at female genitalia all....fucking....day....long

IN men its less so because we don't do prostate exams every day depending, of course, on the practice and speciality.

So, dont fear being embarrassed. We just want to do our jobs and assist in making sure the patient is healthy and in a good physical state.

My GP is a trans (and might I say a very attractive one!) Always felt comfortable talking with her.. kinda the best of both worlds.. sensitive bedside manner and knows things from a mans point of view.. takes every ounce of willpower to not get excited when she says "turn your head and cough.."
