a few quotes that I find interesting
The underlying thesis, which Ogas and Gaddam believe will be proved correct: There’s no such thing as a sexual deviance. People who are attracted to mirrors, or to beards, or get turned on by ants in their pants — these are cases that, until now, have been diagnosed by clinicians who’ve seen patients. The Internet gives us a far better sense — rough, but still — of what is a likely anomaly and what is a far more common predilection. “We discovered things even Kinsey didn’t know,” says Ogas. “Foot fetishes, for example, are common across all cultures.”

Despite the shortage of empirical data — and can there ever really be empirical data when it comes to human sexuality? — Symons says that the research itself is a gift. “I think,” he says, “all these questions can be sorted out in the future.” And as the authors so optimistically note in their conclusion, the upshot of the book — no matter how unsettling some of the data may appear — is actually quite comforting: There is, indeed, someone for everyone.

I don't think I am kinky or deviant in in any way. I like what I like and no harm comes to any. Apart from maybe me on occasion which can actually be rather fun because its never out of control.;):)

These so called "researchers" are ignoring the fact that 99% of people even Heterosexuals and GLBT people included do not have any sort of fetishes and do not have any sort of desire to have any type of sex besides pure vanilla sex.
This article is old I read about this months ago in Newsweek.

I was on that site but I deleted my account.
There are way too many fakes and poseurs on there who are completely vanilla and only wish they had an actual fetish or kink, yet list what they think are somehow actual fetishes or kinks when they're just vanilla sex acts.
Then you have the wannabe internet slaves, doms, Masters, or people who claim that they're into actual BDSM and kink but when it comes down to the brass tacks they really are not and just want to cyber.

..... [snip].....

I've known a bunch of these kinds from several BDSM chatrooms. It came out at some point that although they talked a great game and did role play in chat, they'd never actually DONE any BDSM. Total wannabes or posers. But I guess for them, it is a bit past plain 'nilla.
Some had, at least, done stuff to themselves to try and learn to get a start and find out if they liked it. I will give those folks some credit for experience since covering yourself in clothespins and putting on nipple clamps, etc, while not a complete experience since you can take them off yourself any time, is still experience outside of the vanilla realm. That is how I started, then we advanced to real BDSM play, so I guess I side with this as an OK entry, though going to a munch and meeting the locals would have been even better.
But... back to the main topic... I know there are three others at work into BDSM in an office of 22 (we all came out to each other over several years), so we are talking over 10%, and that is only the ones I know!
At least one of them is bi, I suspect one more is as well (funny that they would come out about BDSM but not bisexuality).
According to an article I read about swinging, about 2% of the population does.
And I admit that I enjoy the taboo/dirty aspect of it as well, something about being a member of the pervert's club turns me on even more.
Oh and I don' consider orientation as part of kinky since that is normal (Baby, we were born this way!)
Happy Friday!

My partner read this and laughed out loud in a very doubting manner. I am not kinky. I am raunchy. What we like is what we like and if we like it, it does not make us kinky. It makes us raunchy and fun loving.

I am so glad you have written this post because I do see your point and have much sympathy with it. Your first post however, makes you sound so uninteresting and unexciting. So much more interesting and exciting to say how kinky you can be, but raunchy isn't bad to be getting on with.;)
