View Full Version : Lesbianism may become ‘official UK religion’

Lesbianism may become an official religion in the United Kingdom, if a trend identified in early analysis of this year’s census continues to rise.

Under rules in the written constitution of England & Wales, any religion followed by more than 15% of the country can apply to be officially recognised, and will receive state funding to maintain places of worship and appoint theological leaders. Early results seem to indicate that this percentage has so far been exceeded.

2011 Census respondents were urged to fill in their religion as ‘lesbian’, in a campaign intended to highlight the UK’s disproportionate state funding of religious bodies and underfunding of LGBT groups. It was supported by a Facebook group and several high-profile LGBT personalities, and received national press coverage.

Although not all copies of this year’s census have been gathered yet, preliminary analytical work has been done on those that have been collected, and early indications suggest that around 17% of the country chose to identify as lesbian. Daisy Fall-Poor, spokeswoman for the Statistics Research Bureau, said: “Although we have only analysed 10411 papers so far, we are consistently seeing a return of 17.2% on followers of lesbianism. It is too early to give concrete figures yet, of course, but the early signs look interesting.’

Interesting trend, wonder if we could do the same here in the US.

"I have to get married to a same sex partner it's my religion!"

Its stupid Diva.. Ive had several friends tell me they'd put it down and its insane.. it wont ever get lesbianism recognised as a religion (Fran having recently been declared goddess notwithstanding) and nor should it.. it isnt a religion and am not going to get sidetracked by this daft notion by saying it is.. I've had some lively discussions with a number of friends on this very issue, and know several did enter their religion as "lesbian". One also entered it as retired "nymphomaniac", scored it out and entered "no, semi retired nymphomaniac". Fun but a bit daft.. a decade ago star wars was it.. this time lesbians.. yeah.. right...

On our census this year there were far more insidious questions for the population as a whole which should have had no place on any census form.. questions which seemed to me more about government and its apparatus tracking down people for all sorts of reasons and providing more information about us and our lives AS INDIVIDUALS than any census before it..

I have answered all the questions on the form but await to hear from them about the format and content of a number of my answers which I doubt match up to their idea of what they should be... this years census is much too intrusive and quite reprehensible in far too many respects to allow pass by unremarked upon.. I've done my lil bit to express my dissatisfaction.. but trying to claim "lesbian" on the only voluntary question on the form as my religion is not one.. I await the lil man or woman from the census office popping along to query our form... the questions which needed action on were the other 50 odd compulsory ones....

"What's your religion/faith, if any?" "Lesbianism."

Actually hun while u may well be right, there has been an orchestrated campaign going on for some time to do precisely what the article suggests...

Yup, but then April fools tend to start with something real. The classic spaghetti trees: well, there are such things as trees, and there is such a thing as spaghetti...

It's the 17% claim, though...

Putting mild deception into the Census has been a sport for ages. Hence the "Jedi" thing. If someone want's to worship Julie Andrews then, why not? So might it be for "Lesbianism". I am indeed a devout Lesbian myself.

Besides, the Aliens did land (CBS), 3D aural manipulation (BBC) and Sphagetti trees (BBC) are real I tell you, and you can grow sausage plants (Adam West Mayor of Quahog, RI).

The fact that the question on the census form regarding religion, is the only one that you are not required to give an answer to, indicates how much value the Government assigns to it.

In 2111 certain Scottish family members will no doubt look at the answers and think, 'that explains everything, it's genetic, our forefathers were screwballs' lol
