Some public schools are using web filtering software to block student access to positive info about LGBT issues and organizations. Blocking all LGBT content violates students' First Amendment rights to free speech. They also violate the Equal Access Act, which requires equal access to school resources for all extracurricular clubs, including gay-straight alliances and LGBT support groups. Some schools have even configured their web filters to block access to websites for positive LGBT rights organizations, but still allow access to anti-LGBT sites that condemn LGBT people or urge us to try to change our sexual orientation. This is called viewpoint discrimination, and it's also illegal.

first question I have.... is what content is on the sites that is deemed unacceptable

recently there was the issue in NZ over mcdonalds offering free net access for people to check emails, and some limited web browsing...... a issue arose over blocked access to some LGBT sites and immediately Mc'D's was deemed to be homophobic....

2 of the sites blocked, featured links and images of a X rated nature.... deemed not suitable for public viewing in a family orientated restaurant....

Mc'D's tried to compromise, including talking with the websites owners and creators over changing part of the site, so that it was suitable for public viewing in Mc'D's

it didn't stop people labeling Mc'D's as homophobic, anti LGBT etc.... and the fact was ignored, that mc'd's blocked as many x rated sites and images as possible, that were non LGBT related... and not a word was mentioned about that.....

so i have to ask... what is on the sites that is causing them to be blocked....
and before people tell me they are LGBT sites that are blocked, I know that, already, I want to know what sites so I can see for myself, what content is blocked

This from a video attached to the article, which likely expounds on the issue. I don't feel inclined to set up TOR merely to watch one video, nor do I feel a need in being tracked by Big Bro .. er Google.

Thank you ACLU for not doing 'The Right Thing (tm)', and hosting the video elsewhere. Was this intentional? Thought ACLU was still for the people? They get bought out, threatened?

It may seem to be a trite issue to many. I assure you it reeks of a declaration of war, though. "You can't learn this, we've written it, and in Latin no less. You're a poor serf living in the hills, we keep you uneducated and use you as slaves. Get out of line and we'll yell witch, have burnings, oh glee!"

"Dude, I understand enough Latin. Read this, it's the state motto of Virginia. 'Sic semper tyranis'."

"Um, there a guy with a sword over a guy on the ground, um is that a crown fallen off his head?"

"Yep, the king is dead. And another bit of Latin fer ya! 'Igna Natura Reniventura' It means, 'in nature fire cleanses and renews'. Forests do sometimes need to be clear burned in order to revitalize themselves. Nature is the greatest steward, shows the way. Out with the old, in with the new.( The Jesuits also held that it meant broadly 'It is just to kill an unjust king'.)"

"Sounds like you're making threats, there buddy."

"nope, just making educated observations and statements of fact."

"but we've not educated you, how can you be educated?"

"wicca and experience, the kabal, knowledge ingrained in each of us no matter who we are."

"So what are you saying?"

"it is what it is, Mr. Man. But lots of us see it for what it what it ain't, it ain't right. Seen Egypt, Belgium, Syria lately?"

"Their countries are going to hell, people are revolting peacefully."

<nods> "Countries shut down or run without government by the people. America used to be by the people, says so in the Declaration of Independence, course now we're all a bunch of spineless cowards, afraid to view informative/educational videos because of electronic parasites."

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

LDD:

The letter contends the web filter allows access to sites that condemn homosexuality but inappropriately blocks sites such as the Gay-Straight Alliance Network, It Get's Better and Lamda Legal which do not contain sexual content or violate school rules

"Hale the Fourth Reich!"

Sorry, I have to stop watching old Charlie Chapalin stuff, rots the brain and such.

Pardon me. This subject is in a way relevant to something I'm experiencing currently in life. So forgive a minor bit of venting but if doesn't get out, I wind up worse off. At work today I went ahead with implementing the DTA & CYA policy. Don't Trust Anyone & Cover Your Ass for the non-initiated. I've been at the current position over six months. The whole time a supervisor has been playing the lovely game of 'let's be a real prick', toward me and others, with me being the main target. And it seems no matter what I say to whoever, goes back to him, usually with added bullshit. So, I've decided to basically not talk to anyone. The only talking they may get from me is about programming languages, which is completely unrelated to the work, probably well above their level of comprehension. In simple terms, I'll converse in a safe dialog. :) See how long before my supervisor is trying to quote algorithms back to me.

"Well, so and so said you said _iv_holycow==3.14 if_{ _iv_holycow*fv_chumbawumba != cv_greatscott }; And I just think that is so wrong, Ben!"

"So, you think holycow multiplied by chumbawumba should equate to greatscott?"

"Huh?"

"It's a logical algebra expression, sir. greatscott is the variable representing the speed at which anti-matter evaporates. I'm trying to help deduce how to do tasks in that limited time."

"Well, you shouldn't do that here."

"I'm not. I'm only talking about it to co-workers, if they'll listen or seem interested."

"They aren't."

"Are you sure?"

And well he might find out just who a prick really is, especially if my wife gets any more pissed off than she is over the whole bit of working there. She has already mentioned something about a lawyer, duct tape, bondo, fingernail polish remover, and a crowbar.
