In the morning I am starting about two weeks of course taking and testing for a Coast Guard captain's license---where I will be staying most of the time over the course of that time--I won't be having regular internet contact unless I go to some WiFi hotspot cafe.

I will only be basically checking my email on my smartphone but won't be doing much websurfing.

The material for both the course work and testing is not the easiest----I haven't covered a lot of that stuff in ages---I hope it does come back---do wish me luck with the coursework and testing.

I also haven't done any sort of "schoolwork" in a few years too!!! Hope I can get the old braincells and neural synapses to work good enough again!!:bigrin:

Take care every one and see ya again back in early March--and for those of us in temperate climates where its been a pretty hard winter-----THINK SPRING!!!!!

Later all!!

I wish you the best of luck with the coursework and the testing, but I have a feeling you'll be fine.

I've been thinking Spring for the past two days, Volt, weather has been damned pleasant for a change. Just a week or so ago it all white and snowy and making me think we'd never see the ground before the end of March. Sure feels like March though with the wind gusting up to 30mph. Makes me wish I still had a kite to go fly :)

I wish you a lot of luck (and don't forget the skill part either) with your getting a Captains License. That houseboat that you have looks to be at least 50 foot long, and if I can remember correctly, it is required for a person to have a Captains License in order for a person to operate a boat that is over 50 foot in length. It also seems like having passengers on the boat with you had something to do with that too.
This is something that is usually not enforced here in the US, But if there is ever any incident, like somebody drowning, drunk boat operating, crashing into others, and really a whole list of law infractions and there is investigation done by the Coast Guard. That is when the "Captains License" problem, becomes a problem.
Awwwwww,,, you know how it is now days, almost everything is illegal. It's only when an authority figure (the dam cops) decides that you need to have your attitude adjusted, or his (or her) quota fulfilled, that they decide to come after you. All they have to do is decide what he (or she) can stick you with and then you become stuck with it. Then you have to pay a bail bond, appear in court, hire a lawyer,,,, you know the drill!!!

Anyway,,, When do we start calling you "Capt'n Jack Sparrow"? And when do you start sailing the seven seas? Looking for the eighth? And you becoming a real Captian kinda makes me think of a few Jimmy Buffett songs,,,HUH? :tong:

All I really got to say is good luck, hope you get it, let us know, keep in touch.

Oh yes Voltie,,, I am thinking bout SPRING,,, That's the when the motorcycling season really starts too,,, Can't wait,,, Me, a real summertime type person, I love it, get to ride everywhere and enjoy the outside, while wearing a minimum amount of clothing!!! My favorite pastime, while out in the public world.
And yes Voltman,,, a person needs a license to operate one of them things too!!!

Your friend, :doggie:

Yeah Doggie--you got it right--with the big boat---since we do take out fair numbers of folks and this summer---we have at least four or five cases of having but the boat out for cruises that people bid on in silent auctions and such for charity---with those trips having something like 20 to 30 people on board----it is really best to have a licensed captain to be running the boat---even though I have many years of experience running a boat--that is something I have done almost literally since the days I could first walk and talk---for liability and insurance reasons---it is best that I have the license--and when I say its a "Coast Guard license"-the US Coast Guard is the agency here in the US that handles such things.

With the license though--I can begin to get some jobs running other people's boats for hire--so it is a not bad way to make some extra bucks---in the case of some hires of that sort like delivering a boat from one place to another---you can make a nice bit of money and its not a bad "office" to be out working on the water--because to me--I love the saying that goes "a bad day on the water beats a great day in the office" anytime!!

I am happy to report that I completed and passed the first part of my licensing courses----I was supposed to be doing one more segment this weekend--but they had to reschedule that.

I passed the first part of the course and am sure the next part will be no problem since the hardest part I got through--the hardest part now is getting all of the paperwork together and submitted to the Coast Guard.

Guess ya all can call me Captain Volty now though!!:bigrin::bigrin:
