it's amazing what this cyclone has done. cardwell, innisfail, mission beach, tully, all suffered massive damage. the only good thing (and i say this not to lessen the suffering to the occupants of the above towns as my heart goes out to them), these places were low in population. if the cyclone had hit densely populated towns of townsville and cairns - which were predicted, the devastation and sadly, loss of life, would be more. we have one confirmed death, and still more missing. now the cyclone has been downgraded. but because it was so massive, it's still a low to be reckoned with and it's moving down through the centre of australia and is now flooding victoria, at the bottom of the mainland. land already saturated, is not coping well. and we're only half way through summer, with three more cyclones predicted. how they can predict this, i don't know. if the weatherman can't get three days away right, how do they know this?? if they got paid when they got it right, they would be scrawny and ragwearing. and what's with sydney's week long heatwave getting to over 42 (over 100 in f) yesterday? at 6am today was 29(over 80 in f). and just on the tv, bushfires over west australia. this country is amazing.

anyway, the thing that tickled my funnybone, was a sign painted on the side of what was left of one house - 'is that all you got?' cute!!

Thankfully--it sounds like this cyclone was not an Australian version of Hugo, Andrew or Katrina in its effect since according to Bizel's reporting---the area the cyclone came ashore was rather sparsely populated and not overly developed either, but for those who do live there---I am sure that this storm had a devastating effect. I hope that few people died or were injured and that the survivors can rather quickly pick the pieces up and return to "normal life" as soon as possible.
