View Full Version : Internet - Sexuality, porn, freedom of speach and children

Let me start off by declaring that the internet was not created by or for children. It was created and expanded by educated adults. Sometimes the expansion was highly motivated by the sharing of pornography and other adult content; other times by geeks who wanted to share information and computing power. I submit the prevalence of porn throughout the history of internet (going back to bbs!) and being (if I'm not mistaken) still the single largest internet industry. Sexuality is an inherent, strong, adult human characteristic.
It is my contention that the internet should be treated like a bar (tavern/pub). No children without parental/adult guidance/presence.
I stress again, the internet was not made for children.
If a parent allows a child access to the internet, then it would be that parent's responsibility to limit, however necessary.
Sure, kids will find a way to get in. Just like we found a way to get our Dad's Playboy (or other magazine) when we were kids.
Why do I bring this up?
Government encroachment upon the internet, and freedom of speech.

While the initial step of the FCC may seem a good thing, declaring themselves power over internet traffic is a very bad thing as their internet control will only grow and expand.
We share our thoughts here on bisexual.com; not always sexual thoughts but political as well (okay, virtually everything).
As the book 1984 made clear, government intervention of basic rights keeps people focused upon their personal violations of these abridgments, rather than the whole picture of what government is doing. As an added bonus, nearly any dissident can be legally attacked for having probably acted in some natural sexual way.

As regulations increase, free speech can only suffer. While China is a example how totalitarian governments simply ban freedom of speech, 'democratic' societies do it by legal encroachment.

Keep the internet safe from the government perverts who would sadistically f*** every principle of freedom that exists.

The internet was made by adults for adults.
Adults possess, seek understanding, and maintain rights of freedom, not children.
Keep the internet safe for adults.
Once we start down the slippery slope of 'the internet should be safe for children' then we might as well simply ban adults and free speech worldwide from the internet.

This article was interesting but sadly about twenty or thirty years too late, maybe even later. We are now starting to see the New World Order fall into place. "First they call you crazy ..."

It's a fool's dream to think that anything that has been posted on the net since it's inception is not recorded somewhere. Everything is logged. Because that's logical and computers are logic personified.

This is nothing more than fearmongering, this FCC recommendation was passed to make it so A can't be on B's service and unable to access this VOIP to call C because the VOIP was a rival of B's service. That is at the heart of the recommendation. But keep in mind the FCC does not pass laws and the enforcement of these recommendations will not happen for a very long time.

It does however give a basis to lawsuits against monopoly carriers of broadband service and ensure equal quality of service to all. Yeah, equal suck is still equal right?

one statement stands out from your speech

It is my contention that the internet should be treated like a bar (tavern/pub). No children without parental/adult guidance/presence.
I stress again, the internet was not made for children.

what are you saying...that personal freedoms should be not be limited, while you are actively stating that personal freedoms should be limited......

the net was created for the sharing of info in a faster manner than was possible.... it expanded from there........ and parts of the net has been created for children, unless you wanna claim that mylilpony.com is a adult site and that barney the dinosaur should be adult viewing only

what drives the expansion of the net is money... the ability to make and generate money.....
the dot.com era was not about porn, it was about names and money.....
most gaming sites are not about porn, they are about money....
most porn sites are not about porn, they are about money
if people stopped paying for porn, 3/4 of the sites would go overnight......

free speech and free expression is the right to say what you wish to...... its not protection from the consequences of what you say and do...... yet the net has became the largest criminal element in the world.... be it filesharing, hacking, trojans, name stealing, id thieves, account stripping, 419 scams etc....

the net is like the streets.... don't sit and complain about how unsafe the streets are and how the cops are not doing enuf, if you want to complain about the police sitting on the street corner watching every move you make, to keep you safe......

"the net is like the streets.... don't sit and complain about how unsafe the streets are and how the cops are not doing enuf, if you want to complain about the police sitting on the street corner watching every move you make, to keep you safe......"

Now you're scaring me.

If I saw cops watching me, more than likely I'd stop and watch them. I may even smile, nod, wave. Shoot might even offer them a drink, a meal. But I would watch them, watch me. I would be vigilant in my observations, too, logging it all. But then, police are hired or appointed via my agents. They are public servants. Do I trust the public? No. Come to think of it I don't trust democracy. Oh boy, I'm unAmerican for sure. Well, I better go, need to watch the watchers. :D

i agree, its getting scary how our rights are slowly being eroded away into nothingness. it seems most of the public is distracted with major achievements such as the recent bill stopping DADT while essential rights are slowly being slipped away. the worst part is often its often applauded such as the reactionary TSA security measures. im hoping that this does not lead us down the slippery slope of regulations, we already have our TVs regulated and dont need our internets. "so this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause"
