Sometimes I get amazed while surfing youtube and find some interesting things.

This particular one is a Hawaiian guy on ukuele(sp) doing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, yeah I know it's a way overdone song but it's surprisingly listenable with his voice.

I'll add in more links later, I know there was one Duck gave me a long time ago with some ukuele orchestera doing Good, Bad and the Ugly.

Dang, that first guy was good! Liked the dog story, too. One and three're my picks.

I have the album ("Facing Future") that the "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" track came from. It's a great album - unfortunately the last one before he died...

...thank you for a change of pace in an otherwise hectic day; the ukulele has never been high up in my favorite instruments, but both instances here were very enjoyable. agree that somewhere over the rainbow is overdone, but have always found his rendition particularly beautiful. ....and the group, one of the best uses of the ukulele, not to mention their entire range of muscial talent.

as to the celtic thunder, saw that concert broadcast sometime back on a local pbs station, fine music, and some definitly fine guys.

Thanks
I like the Over the Rainbow version. It was quite interesting to see how the Hawaians behaved as they spread his ashes. It was definitely a celebration of life. I also have "Calenonia" done by an Irish woman folksinger. I think that here version has more emotive qualities that Celtic Thunder. They were still good but Dolores Kaine's version on "Only a Woman's Heart" was better. I picked up a tape of it years ago in Ireland. I looked it up. Apparently, "Caledonia" is Roman word for Scotland. I listened to another version by a woman and I'm inclined to think that it sounds better to me if a woman sings it. This is Lisa Kelly's version....not quite as emotive as Dolores' though.

Us too! Well, for my daughter's, actually. That's one of the reasons we initially bought the album...

That's really cool. I had heard that song before but never known it was done by a Hawaiian (sp) Very nice. Loved the Uke music when Ki and I went there for our honeymoon. Some of the music and dancing reminds me of native american pow-wows a bit.
