An interesting article about bi sex in rural areas...

    https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...-straight-sex?

"Ward argues that the real reason ‘straight’ men behave in these ways is to ‘reaffirm rather than challenge their gender and racial identity’ and ‘to leverage whiteness and masculinity to authenticate their heterosexuality in the context of sex with men.’ In other words: They do it to prove they’re not gay.”

Kind of hard to wrap my mind around this. A better explanation seems that they are horny and any sex is better than no sex.

Your explanation is OK, but why not just call it bisexuality? We all have different gradations of bisexuality...some guys are only sexually attracted to other guys, some want to be romantically attracted to other guys, etc... This sort of goes back to the whole "MSM" thinking (men having sex with men). If you have some attraction to guys in some way, you're bisexual (arguments about pansexuality and transgendered acknowledged but ignored for this discussion).

Personally I think it's guys who are afraid to admit that they are bi and use some psychological or bro phrases to get around admitting it.

Obviously, there's a lot more bisexuals in the world than people who are willing to admit it. It's pretty amusing to me that guys who would never call themselves bi, and probably hate gays, still have sex with other men. It's a strange world out there.

the was an old BBC sitcom called Keeping up appearances. The premise was this snooty older woman who always pretended to be more than she was Unfortunately I’m kinda one of those snooty people Trying to portray a totally heterosexual male, all the while loving and craving being with another man!

totally agree. if u like having sex with people of some gender, u like that gender. likie u said if u like women for everything but only men for sex ur bi. not evenly but still bi. absolutely nothing wrong at all with that! if u just wanna get off u don't need a guy or anyone else. but once u choose someone else even if it's a distant 2nd choice it's still a choice. even me i've never been with a guy so i don't really know if i would enjoy it or it would be best left as a fantasy. but i still think it's a hot idea so that's enough to make myself consider myself bi. which is fine i know my sexuality isn't too simple but little things like that make things interesting & make me, me i don't quite understand it but hopefully i'll figure things out & others will help out in 1 way or another.

big problem i had with this article is how they say ur str8 because ur part of "str8 culture." so if ur married to 1 women have sex with her regularly etc. only fool around with guys on the dl so noone else ever knows, ur still str8? so in order to be considered gay u have to talk with a lisp, like interior decorating or other stereotypical gay behavior? but if u got a "traditonal" family, 9to5 job, picket fence etc. ur str8 & the fact u like to suck cock on the dl every once in awhile doesn't make u any less str8 & in fact makes u even more str8?!?! so there saying ur outward appearances make u ur orientation not what u like to do whether out in the open or not. is that what everyone else got from this? if not please try & explain this to me so i can try & understand!! i don't doubt men might be more fluid sexually than we might of thought, but just call it what it is. u like guys ur gay, u like women ur str8. u like both ur bi. whatever reason u like whoever u just like them. i guess u can make an exception for someone who's questioning & unsure & experementing. or for someone who's really going outside of there orientation to do a favor for a friend. but that is a huge af favor i know i would never dream of asking any of my friends to do that for me. but there are those who are so dedicated to there friendship they would.

Simple bierasure. It's a common challenge. Men who are afraid of being called gay, people that don't believe bi is an actual orientation, consider it a phase or stepping stone to gay, even a psychologist that claims to be bi supportive and repeatedly drops the bisexual from conversations to explain away straight men having sex with men... bisexuals are not supported in straight and gay communities.

Pride events seldom have bi groups. There are no bi bars. There are only a handful of bi resources in the US, focused only in a few states. Articles published on sites like psychology today that dismiss and hide an orientation that has been documented in a study to equal 52% of the lgBt community. Where are we to build our community? Where are we to get ourselves together and create a better understanding of what bisexuality is, and even make this orientation something to actually be proud about?

Re: An interesting article about bi sex in rural areas...

Really enjoyed you take on the article. The writer seems to have some very good ideas about a sector which I feel I may fit into. I think most of the "dude sex, bud sex" group he refers to are guys who most likely had some same sex contact in their formative years. I agree with you that if you have never had that and your new college roommate asks you for a favor he would most likely not be your roommate long. However if you and your roommate have had previous jerk off sessions with Jr. High friends before meeting and the subject comes up after a night of partying when you're back in the dorm room and you realize you have that in common it will most likely escalate quickly. Especially nowadays with porn so easily accessible. I would have to believe that the number of guys I jerked off with as a 13-14 year old would be many times more than the five I remember. Out of the five, four became hands on each other. Jacking each other to completion. Three of the four were a one time occurrence, the other was and on going off and on over the next ten years.
In the small group of friends and fringe friends I grew up with it was a pretty high percentage that experimented, I have to believe other did I didn't have contact with. None of the ones I had contact with knew of the others. Very secretive in the early seventies.
I do see where the writer/researcher comes up with the group he does. I strongly preferred female partners but also felt no guilt about getting together with my bud/dude and blowing each other until after the act but I knew I would be back regardless.
Strange thing to me is I have only been attracted to two guys in the 30 plus years that have passed since our last encounter. Both were the same body type and personality as him. Both had noticeable packages like him as well. I've been strongly attracted to thousands of women during that time. That's how I ended up here I guess, looking for a classification as silly as that sounds. This article is the most interesting I have seen so far.

It boils down to being comfortable with whom ever you are with. As a Bi guy I get just as much enjoyment out of women than I do with men. There is not a single man on this earth that hasn’t watched a dog or cat lick their own genitalia and said that was gross, they all would say God I wish I could do that. We men and women alike choose to help out the opposite sex as well as same sex. For me it’s all the same. As 1 of my buddies puts it, Hey man feeling like helping a friend out tonight? I don’t believe in the sexual identities that society puts on anyone. Th E animal world figured out a long time ago.
