Could be free will, most likely is our unique biology as humans and how our bodies seem to know what we need even when what we need contradicts what our minds know, i.e., boys just do not have sex with boys and all that rot. Several different things going on -- I've always known from a young age that I was "different" -- and around age 8 or so I was falling in love with males the same way most boys my age were attracted to females.

Upbringing, experience .. they also play a part. I often wonder how much our practice of "sexual variability acceptance" is in our inherited genes. I grew up in a normal family. No issues at all. But I have noticed I have many of homosexual relatives - uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and many suspected bisexuals. Like many reports here, I was very hetero as a young man.
