I second the motion. This seems so sterile and no personality to the feel of it.

I have to say I like this site design better. May seem sterile now, but give it a chance.

The other site was much easier to get around on, and you actually knew where people were from. The way its set up now you don't know if they're around the corner or in Estonia

The way its set up now you don't know if they're around the corner or in Estonia That is one of the tweaks I have to make. And the colour scheme to warm things up a bit is another. And changing some of the info and how it is displayed on the homepage so it isn't so "ANALytical" is another.

I'm still running into problems when I write a PM? My computer seems to beep at some point as if it is a warning?

What does this "auto save" thing at the bottom of the message mean?

DuckiesDarling
Feb 8, 2012, 5:47 PM
Tenni, it means that it was saving a draft of what you were writing in case you get disconnected but the whole of it won't be saved. There is a timer feature, if you continue running into problems you might want to try writing in notepad file then cutting and pasting to pm window. Hope that helps.

I pop in every few months. I take it that the page layout change happened today? Or was it awhile back?

Just happened about a week ago.

Hmmm I like it. More features now. And it's still free. Sure it needs some tweaking. That's the problem with some people. You give them free and they STILL whine. Why don't you both offer some suggestions to help improve the site. It's not going away.

Drew did want to organize it a bit with tabs and such. I see where it could be improved. If you want to know where the people are in your area just click on the link above the updated ads in the home page or select the tab named Search Personal Ads. But I will agree that the list of online users on the left shows only the local City that you entered in your personal ad. If you mouse over the flag of the country it will display the State/Region and Country Name.

On the old site it displayed just the State or Region under that name and that seemed more helpful to me. Maybe this could be changed back. If you want to find out about their local area then you would have to look at a person's profile or that info could be in the mouse over feature of the user's name or the country flag.

Drew also mentioned he might look at the color scheme. Maybe something that would be more appealing. If people liked the old site maybe just bring back the same or similar color scheme. The orange seemed to be more "warming" and inviting.

But in general I think Drew made a positive change. Keep it and grow with it. No Blood, No Foul, Play on.

If it is not broken, just don't fix it.
I still can not have my profile on display.
The old site was better, easyer to navigate, make changes or communicate

When I switch my area to match yours I see your ad right there on the homepage and the Search Personal Ads page.

And when I log in as you, your ad appears on the Search Personal Ads page, but not the homepage (by design, but I am going to change that since it appears to be confusing to some).

As for your comment, "make changes or communicate"... I've been making a lot of changes and posting a lot the last few days. You have to meet me half way. For example, the above info was communicated already here: http://www.bisexual.com/forum/showthread.php?12509-how-to-view-my-own-ad&p=221969&viewfull=1#post221969 And even if it wasn't communicated, how hard is it for you to check the Search Personal Ads page and see your right there near the top?

I appreciate all the feedback, even when some of it is very negative, but I see a pattern in the most negative feedback: it is almost always vague and unhelpful ("The old site was better", and "easyer to navigate"), and the poster doesn't seem willing to do their part by looking into their own issues more closely, and making specific suggestions for improvement.

I did a LOT of tweaking to the old site in its first few months. In fact many of the same tweaks need to be re-done for the new site here. It is going to take some time. And you can even vent a little - I don't mind, and I really do understand when a favourite website changes. But you have to meet me half-way. Keep the specific and helpful suggestions and observations coming.

Even if you preferred the old format of the site, it wasn't entirely un-broken. Events stopped working in 2010, for example, so you no longer got an instant "what's on in my area" on the home page. Different people are drawn to different things about the site so there were no doubt things that did need to be fixed in other places too.

I'm a bit confused by where some things are now, but I like the fresh lick of paint :) and like the new boiler I just got fitted at home, I may be scratching my head now but I'll get used to all these strange new buttons soon enough.

I like the new design. It provides a cleaner area from which to read. Fewer distractions hobble the message areas.

The auto-save feature give me a brief start at first but it is nice. Emacs (http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/) and most modern graphical text editors now offer auto-saving. I think you can even set nano (http://www.nano-editor.org/) up to auto-save in its .rc file, so perhaps even command line editors offer this feature.

I dislike what I see as an overload of distractions in the new flash based chat. But that is is just personal preference. More new ways to ignore and annoy one another, same old same.

I do think being able to use YouTube videos in chat may prove beneficial. For example one may post videos of current affairs as regards our community. We could then have a live discussion of the issue/s. Of course, that's probably pretty futile too. Probably better used as trailer video recommendations. "Hey you seen movie XX? Here's a clip."

That might run into some trouble with Big Brother. After all you might get adult movie suggestions, even pornography. From what I read the site is supposed to be rated G, adult movie trailers would make it X or worse rating.

Not really understanding how or why an adult themed site would be a G rating. But then I'm crazy and often don't understand how to put on my socks.

I'm probably a 5, as in indifferent. It's Drew's site and he'll do what he likes. People will come and go. You can read my post.

When I first logged on to the new site my feeling was "WTF?" I was used to the old site and how it worked, this one has a learning curve which can be uncomfortable at times. But I am starting to get used to it and Drew is working out the bugs so I'm finding that it's ok. I suggest giving it some time, let Drew fix the bugs within as much time as you would want others to allow you, if it were your job.

I think that all that needs to be done are the invariable tweaks to something that gets a major overhaul and that since the old version we were all comfortable with---it will take time to get used to this new version. All in all---I like it and am not going to bitch--just point out things that do seem a bit confusing and such as I go through---Drew does seem to be very much engaged and working at making the needed fixes as he said in his most recent post. Nothing stays the same and as far as I was concerned--the site was well in need of some revision and updating---so I am good with it---it just will take time to get familiar with new things on it and to get back a degree of being comfortable with the changes--I would not want to go back to the old version but it would be nice to have "the old gang" from the previous banner back---they are part of the tribe!! lol

i see nothing wrong with the site besides a few bugs that need to be addressed, some people just can't deal with change i guess, at first i hated the site because i had to learn how to use it and all it's functions, and it has a lot more then the old site, a lot of problems can also be with the way your computer is set up or it's system settings, security settings, browser, memory, settings, ect..., or just not learning how to use it. i havent had any real problems since the site opened. a few inconviences but from what i read they are being worked out. and unlike a lot of sites this site is clean, no pestering adverts, no privacy problems, no widgets, ect... it's clean.

Sigh...I/we don't mind change but this new site is almost painful to navigate, you could get to almost everything from the homepage before. It was more compact, better laid out and just plain more attractive. Just our humble opinion!

I really have no idea what peeps r so unhappy about.. its not that different from the old site but has a few lil extras... takes about 5 minutes getting used to and 30 secs as each lil idiosynchracy raises its ugly lil head....Droosy Woosy an 'is m8s r dealin with glitches but they were expected and warned 'bout... isnt perfect but neither was the old site, and perfection is in rather short supply ne where..

That was my thinking too. I was worried that people would think, "well this isn't much different at all."

But I hear what people are saying about the interface being a bit out of sorts, which I think is everything to some - info that people loved suddenly not being there (such as location of person displayed beside their posts) - and the path from the homepage to the full list of forum threads being 2 clicks instead of 1. And so on. I'm going to fix these things. So I don't mind the complaints really. I just focus on the ones that are helpful rather than the vague complaining.

I never minded working on my own car back in the 70's, then things started to change and were not the same. It got more difficult for a while. Soon I realized that things were getting better in some areas and that change was OK. I quit working on my own cars years ago, but do I want to go back in time and live in those days again. Hell No!!! I don't like the new site that much, but then I'm not on it all that much either. With time, the bugs will get worked out if you let Drew know what they are. Until then quit whining unless you drive an Edsel all the time and believe that everything old is better. Trade your computer in on an abacus and pen & paper , then see how good your old friends are.

People are resistant to change in general. Give this a chance. Because it's not familiar like it used to be, there are some who have raised some concerns. It really is a matter of getting used to in most cases. I don't know but the software was likely upgraded so there could be potential for so many new and exciting features down the road that the old site and software might not have allowed. So, my vote is give it a chance. It's not really that big a change so far. The look and feel are still in general true to the original. The site could have more new and exciting features added down the road which the old software might not have allowed.
